Maybelline New York Hypercosmos Eyeshadow

Now I'm not going to lie I bought these simply because of how beautiful the marbled effect looked in the packaging. I just thought it looked so expensive and luxurious. I picked them up as soon as I saw them in poundland and before I knew it I'd made it to the checkout. Also, yes that did say poundland, how could I possibly say no at £1 each. The pigmentation of these isn't amazing but with a layer or two the colours really do look beautiful and catch the light so nicely. There lasting power is pretty average but they last well with a primer on. They blend together nicely and obviously the colours within the palettes complement each other very well. The white shade looks wonderful on the inner corner of the eye to highlight. They also make an excellent highlighter applied lightly on the cheekbones or brow bone, just be sure to use a light hand!
So has anyone ever heard of this line by Maybelline?

Day 13: Perfect Winter Lip and Nail Combo

I have officially found my perfect winter/Christmas lip and nail combo!
It consists of Maybelline Color Show Downtown Red Nail Polish and Mua Lipstick in Shade 1. They match perfectly with each other and are such perfect Christmassy shades not too berry toned and autumnal and not too orange toned and summery.
What would your perfect winter lip and nail combo be, I really wanna know!

Day 12: A Chistmas DIY

Say Hi to Ruddy!
Today I have decided that my Christmas DIY is going to be a nail art tutorial-more specifically a Rudolph the Reindeer accent nail.

First I painted my nails in Maybelline Colour Show Downtown Red except for my accent nail which I painted with Sally Hansen Cappuccino Creme.
Then I used the red again to dot the nose on and Barry M White to make two dots for the eyes.
Finally I put two smaller black dots in the white ones, a curved white line on the nose to make it look shiny and used a pencil to draw on little black antlers with my Barry m black polish.
To finish it off I painted all my nails with a clear top coat and then sat and admired them rather than doing my maths homework :)

My Top 3 Lip Products

6 days is rather a long break between posts for Beauty By A Geek of late, but since I haven't actually wrote any posts since August (My September posts were all scheduled since I knew I'd be so busy starting sixth form) I kinda forgot. I probably will be posting less frequently now because A-Levels are rather freaking hard anyway.
My collection currently stands at 9 lipsticks, 2 lip crayons, 3 liquid lipsticks and 1 lip gloss so it was no mean feat whittling it down to my top 3 lip products. However, the final contestants are- Bourjois Colour Boost lip crayon in 05 Red Island, Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick in 05 Ole Flamingo and Maybelline Colour Sensational Vivid in 910 Shocking Coral.
The first is a true cherry red, the second is a bright but dark pink and the final is a slightly neon bright pink. Whilst I don't wear the maybelline one all that often due to its brightness, it's still one of my favourite lipsticks formula wise so I knew I had to include it.
The lip crayon and lipstick both have a gorgeous glossy finish whilst the liquid lipstick dries matte on the lips. All three are incredibly long lasting so need minimal touch ups and are beautifully pigmented so stay the same colour and don't tend to fade.
Although they're probably not the most wearable, neutral colours, they probably are my most worn colours of all I own partly because I'm a lover of bright lipstick and partly because they just have such excellent formulas.
L-R Maybelline Colour Sensational, Bourjois Colour Boost Crayon, Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick

So there's my recommendations, please give me yours!

Maybelline Colour Tattoos Review

Swatches- On and on Bronze on the left and Pink Gold on the right

So everyone who is interested in makeup, whether through blogging or youtube or whatever, raves about these, so I of course had been wanting to pick up a few. When my birthday came in March my friend actually bought me these and I was so happy. Since then I have been meaning to write this review (meaning the photos are rather old) and now finally I have got round to it.
These are perfect for when I can't be bothered to put on eyeshadow properly or if I'm in a rush as they can be worn alone or alternatively can be used as a base/primer for other eyeshadows to help them stay on all day and reduce creasing. Their staying power really is pretty phenomenal, I tend to have quite oily eyelids so these are very helpful for me and make a great base. I have also been able to get away with wearing these to school even though we are only meant to wear subtle makeup, which is really nice :)

I really think I should add some more colours, what do you recommend?

New York City: Holiday Makeup Bag

Having a rather large makeup collection kinda comes with being a beauty blogger, so when it's time for a trip, it's always hard to dwindle it down to a few key products, but this is what I have tried to do. Trust me, it was hard. Some people may say that 4 lipsticks for a six day trip is excessive but I'm sure if you're reading this you know it's important to have choices, so read on to see my holiday makeup, the products below are the exact ones I'm taking to New York but one or two are in the wrong shades as I couldn't find a good photo of them.

Holiday Makeup Bag

So in the face category we have my favourite everyday concealer, foundation, bronzer, blush and powder, pretty simple really. I also have the Benefit Porefessional primer because I recently got it free in the Elle magazine (I may have spent £4 on a magazine which I personally thought was just adverts for the free gift. Oops.)
For eyes I'm taking a pencil and felt tip liner, I would have prefered a good gel one, but my Collection Gel Liner isn't very long lasting at all. Obviously I also need mascara and my MUA eyebrow kit, then I'm taking the MUA Undressed palette as it's a good neutral palette with a good range of colours and my maybelline colour tattoo in 'On and On Bronze' to use as a base/primer.
Then, for lips I'm taking Rimmel Kate Moss 110, Rimmel Apocalips in Eclipse, Maybelline Colour Sensational Vivids lipstick in Shocking Coral and Natural Collection Lipstick in Crimson. That way I have an orange, purple, pink and red and cover all my bases.
Finally I am also taking some of my Real Techniques brushes which aren't pictured. I think I'll take the Buffing Brush for foundation, Contour Brush for bronzer and blush, Brow Brush for brows, Deluxe Crease Brush for concealer and the Base Shadow Brush for my eyeshadow. Plus my good old primark powder brush to finish it of.

This is actually what I would take on a two week trip to be honest and I'm only going for 6 days...Oops...

Maybelline Colour Sensational Vivids Lipstick Shocking Coral

I have been so impressed with this lipstick! I found it at the market for £2 having never heard of the range, but when I opened the lid and saw the colour I instantly fell in love. I went away telling myself that I already had enough lipsticks to last the rest of my life but came back about an hour later to grab it whilst my mom wasnt looking! On the way home I had a quick google and found that it was £7 in boots and was very happy with myself :)

I have to say that when they day 'vivid', they really do mean vivid, I have seriously never seen a brighter lipstick. On the other hand when they say Coral, they do not mean coral. I would never call this shade coral it is definitely pink on the lips, I think it is the perfect shade for the summer though!

It is gorgeously pigmented, moisturizing and long lasting formula, I've literally never had a lipstick that lasts this long, its incredible, it lasts through eating and drinking, for hours, much longer than most of the so-called 'Long lasting' lipsticks that I have (I'm talking to you Kate Moss for Rimmel London). They also smell absolutely amazing, but the thing I like least about them is actually the packaging, I just think that because it so bright it's quite taccy and I find it quite hard to open sometimes. Apart from that though, I love it!

Have you guys tried these lipsticks or picked up any amazing bargains lately?

Mini Makeup Haul and Review

All the cosmetics were on 3 for 2 at boots before Christmas, so I took the opportunity to stock up! :D

From left to right I brought Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder, Barry M Matte nail Varnish in crush, Rimmel London apocalips in Stellar and Maybelline the Falsies mascara.

Now for some mini little reviews...

This is how the matte nail varnish looks, personally I was a little disappointed as it didn't really seem all that matte to me. I prefer to wear it with a layer of clear nail varnish over it to make it normal and glossy because the colour is still absolutely gorgeous and the perfect wintery shade!

This is the first bronzer I have ever used and  to be honest I was a bit scared that it would make me look totally orange because I'm so pale thats why I picked up the lighter shade, though you can't really see much difference between  the two. I proceeded with caution and indeed ended up loving it! Its perfect to add a golden glow to my face especially during the winter and just generally stop me from looking so pale all the time.

This mascara has to be one of the best mascaras I have ever used. Before using this my favourite was probably l'oreal telescopic but after using this for a couple of weeks I believe I may have found my new favourite. It lengthens my eyelashes brilliantly and genuinely does make it look like I'm wearing false lashes if I curl my lashes and put on 2-3 coats.

This lip lacquer is absolutely brilliant! Its basically like a really pigmented lip gloss which stains your lips so even after the lipgloss wears off you are still left with a colour on your lips, thats not to say that the lip gloss isnt long lasting though. As a result I really do like it. It's also very  pigmented and they offer a great range of colours which made it rather hard to pick, I also really wanted Big Bang (The dark red) and phenomenon (The shimmerless nude). Although it looks quite orangey in this photo its more of a red-ish colour with a hint of pink I'd say.
I have also now brought Eclipse (plum colour) and Nude Eclipse (Nude Colour) because they are so brilliant! I'll post about them later too!

So what are your opinions on these products?

November Favourites

Well December is finally here, which means that christmas is here at last too, but more importantly November Favourites are here!

But remember, December favourites will be over on my new site Beauty By a Geek!

1. Yankee Candles in Red Apple Wreath and Snowflake Cookie- I brought these at the beginning of November and I have been loving them! They make my bedroom smell so christmassy and delicious.
2.Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder- I love this new bronzer, its perfect for just adding a little colour to my face in the winter.
3. Lasting Perfection Concealer- One of my favourite youtubers, Zoella swears by this concealer so I thought I'd give it a try after the last couple I've tried weren't that great and I'm really loving it, it offers good but also long lasting coverage.
4. Maybelline Falsies Mascara- I am really loving this mascara, definitely one of the best Ive tried along with the loreal telescopic one.
5.James Blunt Bonfire Heart- This song is absolutely beautiful and I cant stop listening to it on repeat.
6.Chocolate Hobnobs-My nan brought me a packet last week and these are absolutely delicious, I could have eaten the whole packet in one sitting.
7. Katy Perry Legendary Lovers- This song is also brilliant, I love her whole album though!
8. Fox's Sleepy Hollow- Me and my sister have been loving this programme of late, though I cant watch it at night time ;)
9. Rimmel London Apocalips in Stellar-I brought this on 3 for 2 at boots and I love it! It glides on like a gloss but even after the gloss is gone your lips are still stained. It was really hard to pick a colour because I also really wanted big bang, phenomenon and apocalyptic, hopefully I'll be able to get a few more though!

So what have your November favourites been?

My (growing) Lipstick Collection

I seem to be having a bit of any issue at the moment. That issue is makeup. And money. I can't stop buying makeup at the moment. I brought a new eyeliner, two lipsticks and an eyeshadow palette in the last week...
The newest members of the collection are the MUA lipsticks, but I'll be doing a separate review of them after I have used them a bit, as with the palette and eyeliner.

From Left to right-MUA shade 1 and 4, Natural Collection Crimson, Baby Lips pink punch, Soap and Glory sexy mother pucker lip gloss in Fuchsia-Ristic, Rimmel London Kate Moss lasting finish lipstick shade 16, Miss Sporty Hard Candy, I Love and Bubble Gum.

So far I love the MUA and Kate Moss lipsticks. The Soap and glory one is more of a lip gloss so its a tad sticky which annoys me because my hair sometimes gets stuck to it, which is the main reason I don't really wear lip gloss, but i do love. The baby lips is a great lip balm but the colour doesn't show up much. The miss Sporty ones aren't very good at all. I only bought them because I wanted a bright pink one for a party and they were on 3 for 2 so I just brought 3.Which I know is not a very good way to shop. Finally, the Natural Collection one is quite good, very moisturizing but not very long lasting.

Compared to most people I know my collection Isn't very big, but I do still love it .

Considering MUA is the cheapest of all of them at just £1, they definitely have my favourite packaging, though I do like the Kate Moss packaging too. I also think that the two mentioned are my favourites formula-wise as well.

Let me know if you have tried any of these lipsticks or shades...
